Hillsborough is blooming marvellous

Hillsborough has been shortlisted for the Large Village category at this year’s Britain in Bloom Awards.

Deputy Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin, said: “I was pleased to join Councillor Baird and welcome the Britain in Bloom judging panel to Hillsborough recently. I would like to commend all of those who played a significant part in ensuring Hillsborough is a festoon of colour with floral baskets and displays. I hope that we are lucky and scoop an award at the awards ceremony later this year.”

Councillor James Baird, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, added: “I was delighted to welcome the judges to Hillsborough village and show them all the hard work of the local community alongside council officers to have this charming village a picture of floral colour.

“The community spirit within Hillsborough is strong and each year the Council is delighted to work with it to produce award winning floral displays every year.

“In recent years Hillsborough has picked up at least one floral award and it scooped gold at the 2014 Britain in Bloom competition.

“I would like to commend all of those who played a significant part in this golden success – the Council’s Parks Team, the Hillsborough Community and the Hillsborough Old Guard who were part of the welcome party for the judging panel and the local businesses and residents who supported the scheme and kept the village tidy.”
