Hillsborough man killed in road accident

There was shock in the community this week when 68 year old Hillsborough man George Sherlock was killed in a road accident on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Sherlock was killed when the red Honda motorcycle he was riding was in collision with a blue Volkswagon Passat and a silver Volkswagon Golf at around 3.20pm.

Local councillors have expressed their sympathy to Mr Sherlock’s family following the accident.

Hillsborough Councillor, Alexander Redpath said: “This is devastating news for Mr Sherlock’s family and all who knew him. I hope the entire community can provide appropriate support to all those affected.

“I can only re-iterate the call made by the PSNI for anyone with information regarding the circumstances of the crash to contact them.”

Councillor Aaron McIntyre added: “I was saddened to hear of the death of Mr Sherlock and I wish to extend by sympathies to his family and friends.

“This will be an extremely difficult time for those who knew Mr Sherlock. This incident once again highlights the need for all road users to be cautious and be aware of road safety.

“If anyone witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles involved before the incident, then I would urge them to contact the Police.”

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw any of the vehicles in the area in the time leading up to the collision to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple on the non emergency number 101.
