Hillsborough society meeting

Hillsborough Horticultural Society members were challenged at their last meeting to try growing flowers, fruit and vegetables such as tomatoes, vertically.

This could be an option where space to expand outwards is limited or where there is some ‘soil sickness’ due to over-gardening.

Mr Mark Huey, from Greenmount College, was speaking about the latest developments which may help to ‘get the most from your plot’. Using pallets, he explained how they could be used as support for vertical gardening against a wall and how to arrange watering and feeding. He also informed the Society about ‘leg apples’.

The next meeting of the Society will be held on March 26 when Neil Porteous from the National Trust will speak on ‘The Gardens at Mount Stewart’.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Village Centre, Hillsborough at 8pm.
