Hip-hop legend set for Inver Park

Hip-Hop legend and musical pioneer Grandmaster Flash will headline a new electronic music festival, Jam in the Park, at Inver Park in Larne this summer.

The Grammy Award winner was the first hip-hop artist inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame for his contribution to music.

With his group the Furious Five, he had a string of hits throughout the eighties, most famously the Message, credited as one of the first rap songs. Deborah Harry and Blondie recognized his influence in their hit single Rapture.

Playing alongside Grandmaster Flash will be party favourites Utah Saints and rising international stars East and Young whose productions have gained the support of icons such as David Guetta and Pete Tong.

The event is also supporting the best local talent in Northern Ireland, featuring the crowd pulling Miniminds, and the best of trance from Walsh and McAuley, Tucandeo, Stuart Millar and Mandy Reid. Over 50 other DJs from clubs across Northern Ireland will be playing across five different areas, with the main acts playing in the Big Top arena.

Local electronic music enthusiasts Marty Morrison and Jonathan Hodge are organizing the event on a not-for-profit basis in support of a number of local charities.

Marty’s LIPS Club Nights have been enjoying wide success recently, and he has been establishing a name for himself as a top performer in the club scene here in Northern Ireland.

Mervyn McKay, chairperson of LIPS Kids said: “We are really excited that Grandmaster Flash has agreed to play the festival. It is pretty amazing that he will be here at Inver Park.

“It promises to be a good day and I hope local people will come out and support us as we try to promote the town.

“Our vision with LIPS Kids is to promote the arts here in Larne, and in particular to support local children and young people to access them.

“I am particularly proud that a number of young people who took part in our summer programme last year are playing on this year’s bill, showing how we are promoting local talent.”
