Historic topic for Legacurry WI group

Executive member Ann McCurdy chaired the recent annual general meeting of Legacurry Women’s Institute; she was assisted by tellers Susan Irvine and Safron Sinnerton.

Members elected Irene McKeown as president. Irene went on to win the Competition Cup, while the Attendance Cup went to Marie Gillespie. Marie Scott was birthday girl.

Guest speaker at the subsequent October monthly meeting was Mr Bonar, of Sentry Hill, Carnmoney, an historic 19th century house owned by the McKinney family, originally from Scotland.

Members heard about William Fee McKinney, born in 1832 and later a prolific writer, closely associated with Carnmoney Presbyterian Church.

Ann Robinson won the competition, for Military Memorabilia, with Ray Hamill second and Margaret Irvine third. Birthday girl was Irene McKeown.

Legacurry WI meets at 8pm on the third Thursday monthly in Legacurry Presbyterian Church Hall.
