History-making team and volunteer gymnast coach

Stepping up to collect the awards on the night though, were Lisburn Golf Club’s Junior Foursomes Team and Jeremy McIlwee of City of Lisburn Salto Gymnastics Centre.

Aaron Marshall, Josh Robinson, Mark McNelis and Christian Kennedy make up the Junior Foursomes Team whose Irish Championship trophy win brought the local club the first Irish Pennant of its 110-year history.

Each of the young players had to reduce his handicap to qualify for the competition.

Managed by Mark Jameson, they played twice a day during the school holidays and their hard work and dedication has been hailed as an inspiration throughout the club.

Fifteen-year-old Jeremy McIlwee, meanwhile, has been a member of Salto Gymnastics Centre since the age of five.

Jeremy started volunteering two years ago, when he was just 13; he began working with the Kindergym classes and recreational classes, gaining experience of coaching young gymnasts at various ages.

As well as coaching, Jeremy helps out in whatever way he can at Salto, doing everything from selling entrance tickets to calculating competition scores.

His dedication has not faltered despite his undergoing a major hip operation in 2014, with another scheduled for later this year.
