On Thursday, January 29, the Wesley Trust, adjacent to the Icthus Restaurant and High Street Methodist Church, will host an event to mark the day.

Yanky Fachler, whose father’s family all perished in the Holocaust, will give two short talks.

The first will deal with the controversial decision of several major US corporations during World War II to continue trading with the German company, IG Farben. IG Farben employed tens of thousands of slave labourers and manufactured Zyklon B, the gas used to murder millions of Jewish and other prisoners.

His second talk will focus on the life of Lieutenant Colonel John Henry Patterson, the Irishman who played a pivotal role in Israel’s War of Independence. Last month Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Patterson as ‘the godfather of the Israeli army’.

Yanky is a writer, broadcaster and motivational speaker. He is the author of no less than 15 books.

The evening will begin at 7.30pm. The event is free.
