Holy week in Annahilt and Magherahamlet

THE Holy Week Services this year in the Church of the Ascension, Annahilt and in Magherahamlet Parish Church will be led by the former Bishop of Limerick and Kilalloe, the Rt Revd Edward Darling.

Bishop Darling is originally from Cork and was ordained Deacon in 1956 to serve as Curate of St Luke’s, Belfast in the diocese of Connor.

He subsequently served as Curate of St John’s, Orangefield and Curate-in-Charge of St Gall’s, Carnalea both in Down & Dromore diocese.

He then was appointed as Rector of St John’s, Malone in Connor diocese in 1972. He was consecrated a Bishop in 1985 and served his entire episcopate in Limerick and Kilalloe diocese until his retirement in 2000.

Bishop Darling was Chairman of the Hymnal Revision Committee which compiled the present (5th) edition of the Church of Ireland Hymnal.

Throughout Holy Week at Services in the Church of the Ascension, Annahilt and Magherahamlet Parish Church from Palm Sunday 1 to Good Friday April 6 there will be a series of addresses ‘Features of Holy Week’.

Sunday 1 April, 10.00 am Parish Communion in Annahilt; 12.00 noon Morning Prayer in Magherahamlet.

Monday 2, Wednesday 4 and Good Friday 6 in Magherahamlet at 8.00pm each evening; Tuesday 3 and Maundy Thursday 5 in Annahilt also at 8.00pm.

All are invited to attend these services in whichever venue suits people best.
