Home Bargains opens its doors in Banbridge

One of the largest Home Bargains stores in Northern Ireland opened its doors in Banbridge at the weekend with the creation of 50 new jobs.

Stuart, from the hit Universal Pictures films Minions and Despicable Me made a special appearance at the opening of the 21,500 square feet store on Saturday.

The company, is one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, and the new store in the town is located at Bridgewater Retail Park on Cascum Road.

This, the first Home Bargains store to open in Banbridge, will be joining over 400 outlets across the UK – including 18 in Northern Ireland. Home Bargains opens approximately 50 stores a year.

Joe Morris, Operations Director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our first store in Banbridge and look forward to welcoming new customers through the doors.”

The unit, which is adjacent to Tesco and opposite The Outlet, will offer Banbridge shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Mr Morris added: “Bridgewater Retail Park will be a great location for us and we’re pleased to be a new addition to the local business community. We’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

MLA Carla Lockhart, who welcomed the new store said, “This is a good news story for Banbridge. I am delighted that the owner flew in for the occasion showing his commitment to the new venture.

“Banbridge is on the up and this is another new retail name in the area. The shopping mix in Banbridge is undoubtedly one of the best in Northern Ireland and we can see this clearly with Newry Street in the running to be named the best street in the UK and Ireland.”
