Home safety check scheme for Carrick residents

Carrickfergus Borough Council is working with the Public Health Agency and the Northern Health and Social Care Trust to promote the dangers associated with falls in the home.

Each year in the UK approximately 2.7 million people attend accident and emergency as a result of accidents in the home.

Children under the age of five and people over 65 are most likely to be affected, with falls the most common accidents (55 percent).

Thanks to funding from PHA, the council is now able to provide an accident prevention service via the Home Safety Scheme. The initiative enables a Home Safety Officer to visit individuals at home and assess the risks, provide advice and supply equipment where applicable.
