They have a son and daughter, Craig and Ingrid, and five grandchildren.

Stan and Rachel moved to Canada 36 years ago with their young children to escape the violence of the Troubles.

They now live in Abbotsford, near Vancouver.

What’s their secret to a long and happy marriage?

Stan said: “It’s a number of things. Commitment is one. Honesty is another. If you have a problem with your partner you should talk about it. Don’t hide anything.

“But the most important thing that has helped us to have such a happy marriage is our faith in God.”

Rachel added: “Life has been good to us. We have a wonderful family with many friends and we are looking forward to enjoying our retirement.”
