Homecoming Parade on May 20

MAY 20 has been confirmed by Ballymena Borough Council as the date for a ‘Homecoming Parade’ in the town for the Royal Irish Regiment following their gruelling tour of duty in Afghanistan.

It has also been revealed that the parade will include the TA who are serving with the Regiment whose members will exercise their right to parade as ‘Freemen of the Borough’.

And The Braid Town Hall and Civic Centre is to be their starting point come Friday, May 20. Servicemen and women only march where they have been invited to, according to the Ministry of Defence, and an invitation, both written and verbal, was extended to the RIR by Ballymena Borough Council weeks ago.The RIR are due back to their Shropshire base shortly following a six-month tour of war-torn Afghanistan which has seen them lose three men.
