Numerous homes on Orritor Road, close to the crossroads at Morgan’s Hill Road and Westland Road, had to be evacuated shortly before 3pm on Saturday following the discovery of the suspicious object.

PSNI said that partially-exploded component parts of the pipebomb-type device were removed from under the vehicle.

“A motive for the attack has yet to be established but at this stage we believe the owner of the vehicle has no connection with the security forces,” a police spokeswoman added.

Army bomb disposal experts took the viable device from the scene for a forensic examination and residents have returned to their homes.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact PSNI.
