Homes evacuated in Lisburn security alert

A NUMBER of people were evacuated from their homes during a security alert in Lisburn in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the Greenavon Mews area, close to Barbour Playing Fields, shortly after 1am when a suspicious object was discovered.

A number of homes in the area were evacuated while the army bomb squad examined the object. Greenavon Mews and the Ballynahinch Road were also closed to traffic for a time.

Following examination the object was declared a hoax.

The Ballynahinch Road and Greenavon Mews were re-opened to traffic shortly before 5.30am.
