Homework Club’s a success

The Homework Club, which was set up last year by the Youth section of the Resurgam Trust has proved to be a great success.

The Resurgam Youth Initiative started the homework club in September as they identified the need for quiet space for the young members to complete homeworks. They also needed to gain access to internet for research and to complete online homeworks as some homes may not have the internet or the means to print off the information gathered.

Initially, the group was scheduled for two days a week f on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm - 5.30pm.

The membership at the beginning was small with just three people attending but it didn’t take long for word to spread. Numbers soon increased and at the last count, there was eleven registered participants. As a result, the club now has two additional days, Mondays 4pm – 5.30pm and Fridays 2pm – 3.30pm.

Tommy Kynes, a youth worker for the Resurgam Youth Initiative and also the facilitator of the homework club said: “It’s great to see the young people taking an interest in their education and committing to four days a week study time.

“They are an enthusiastic group of young people who are pleasure to work with, it’s not all study though as I make time during the session for educational learning games, which they all seem to enjoy.

“The homework club is going from strength to strength. At the moment the only participants attend Lisnagarvey High School but the club is open to any secondary school students and we welcome all new comers.”
