Homophobic attack condemned

AN attack on two gay men in Londonderry has prompted condemnation from local elected representatives.

Foyle MP Mark Durkan condemned the weekend assault stating: "This attack was fuelled by a sickening homophobia and must be met with vocal and outright rejection, both in Derry and throughout our wider society.

"Regardless of whether it expresses itself in the sort of wanton attack on this gay couple or in the subtle prejudice we see all too often, homophobia is inexcusable.

"As a community we need to show our solidarity with those who suffer this awful prejudice. And we need to show those who attack them that it is they who are in the tiny minority in this society."

Sinn Fin Councillor Patricia Logue stated: "The message must go out loud and clear that such sickening homophobic attacks have no place in Derry.

"Everyone regardless of class, creed, colour, nationality or sexuality have the right to live their lives with full dignity and in peace."
