Hop on the Playbus for some family fun

Enjoy the chance to rediscover your inner child over the Bank Holiday Weekend, and jump on the Playbus to join in the fun at one of the city’s local play parks.

As part of the Big Flame Weekend Festival free buses will be available throughout the city and in rural areas on Saturday June 2, to take families to St Columb’s Park play adventure area. Here you can join in some of the playground games of your childhood as Play Workers will be facilitating various play activities throughout the day.

Derry City Council’s Officer for Children and Young People, Helen Harley, said everyone was welcome to come along and join in the fun.

“This should be a fun-filled day for kids of all ages,” she said. “We would encourage parents to come along and take part in the activities and teach the children some of the games from their childhood. It’s the perfect excuse to get them outdoors and get active.”

The play adventure area has a range of unique features and facilities including the amazing zip line, various climbing frames for children over eight, plus a more traditional play park suitable for under eights. And there are plenty of other events taking place in the park throughout the weekend with a whole host of colourful characters providing the entertainment at the spectacular Carnival of Colours.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to gain access to the bus and there is a maximum of six children per adult.

The Playbus service and playtime activities are among a whole host of events taking place in the city as part of the Big Flame Festival, ahead of the arrival of the Olympic Torch on June 4.
