Hopes for new service at Garvaghy Post Office

THE Post Office has begun a public consultation on restoring services to customers in its Garvaghy branch outside Banbridge.

The branch closed temporarily on January 31 following the resignation of the operator, but it is hoped an ‘hosted outreach’ service will operate in the area shortly.

A Post Office spokesperson said the proposal was to introduce a ‘hosted outreach’ service, which would provide the same range of Post Office products and services, and which would operate from the same location at 91 Knockgorm Road, Banbrige.

The proposed opening hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 o’clock until one o’clock and the consultation ends on Thursday, May 12.

”Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services in the longer term and the provision of a hosted service presents the best opportunity to do so,” said the spokesperson.

“We are confident that local people will welcome our proposal, but naturally, before taking such an important step, we would like to hear their views.

“In particular, we would like comments on the proposed days of service and opening hours, and if there are any specific local issues which local residents would like us to consider.”
