Hopes high for play area

A new play park could be on the cards for Lawrencetown - subject to purchasing a freehold from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Members of the Policy and Resources committee of Banbridge District Council have recommended the move at a cost of around £12,000.

The site for the proposed play park is at Miller Park and would involve a 25-year lease, with use of the area restricted to that of a play area.

Grant aid may be available from the Down Rural Area Partnership (DRAP) through its Village Renewal and Development scheme.

The committee recommended that the full council expresses its intention to purchase the freehold from the Housing Executive.

This was due to be considered last night (Monday).
