Around 12.30am on Friday, September 19, three males wearing masks threw bricks through the window of a house in Chichester Square. The residents, believed to be Romanian, were not injured.

PSNI Area Commander Chief Inspector Stephen Reid said: “Police in Carrickfergus are treating this as a hate crime and would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact them on the non emergency number 101 or if someone would like to pass information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“As Area Commander for Carrickfergus I utterly condemn this attack. Residents of this town have the right to live in peace without fear of attack regardless of their nationality or background.”

East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson said: “People should be able to live in their own homes without the fear of being attacked. I know the vast majority of the public are opposed to the actions of those who carried out this vile crime.

“Those responsible are dangerous individuals who must be brought to justice, so I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the Police.”
