House owner responds positively to council's clean-up request

A GLENGORMLEY councillor has welcomed efforts to clean up the garden of a vacant property in the Harmin estate.

The owner of the semi-detached house at Harmin Crescent was contacted by officials from Newtownabbey Council’s Environmental Services department in May this year after concerns about rubbish being dumped in the garden of the property were raised by people living nearby.

This week a council spokesperson confirmed that the owner of the property had responded positively to a notice requesting the property be cleared up, adding that no further action is required.

Alderman Nigel Hamilton, who raised the issue with Environmental Health staff on behalf of local residents, commented: “The place had been lying like that for years, but the owner has been out in the past week or so and cleaned the whole place up which is good for the residents who live beside the property and the whole neighbourhood.”
