House Push for Ignite!

A TEAM of local volunteers are set to push a house 37 miles around 13 churches in the Route Presbytery - and all in one day!

Organised by Christian charity Ignite, the aim of the sponsored walk from Kilraughts to Ballycastle is to raise vital funds to start vital work in Malawi.

Already several thousand pounds worth of donations have helped to build schools, wells, medical facilities and accommodation in the impoverished African country of Uganda. And the team, which has members from Ballymoney, Moyle, Coleraine, Cloughmills and Ballymena, are now hoping to change venue and fund a pre-school in Muzu in Northern Malawi and build playground at three pre-schools.

Paul Sayers of Ignite explained: “Ignite volunteers regularly travel to Uganda to oversee and participate in a range of projects.

“So far Ignitie’s work in Uganda has included building and improving schools, working with those suffering from aids, aiding street children, sinking water-wells and facilitating self-sufficiency.

“After our work in Uganda for a number of years we have changed our venue to Malawi which has many needs. We are going out with a team in January 2012 to work for a PCI Missionary Diane Cusick a local girl from Armoy who has been in Malawi for 16 years.

“We aim to help fund a pre-school in Muzu in Northern Malawi and the team will help with building playground at three pre-schools.

“However all this work can not be achieved without the funds. Therefore to help continue all our work we are holding a sponsored ‘House Push’ from Kilraughts to Ballycastle on Saturday, August 13.”

The house, specially built for the occasion, begins its journey this Saturday from Kilraughts at 8am then Bushvale, Rossyard 9.15am, Dervock 10am, Toberdoney 10.30am, Bushmills 12.15, Dunluce, Croaghmore, Toberkeigh 1.45pm, Mosside 2.45pm, Armoy 4.35pm Ramoan and Ballycastle 7.00pm.

Urging people to take part, donate or simply support them on route, Paul continued: “The house is a small house on wheels which will visit the carpark of 13 churches within the Route Presbytery this will involve a team from each church to move the house to the next church on route.

“The walk is roughly 37 miles, however participants don’t have to complete the whole distance and can join the walk on route or as part of a rely team.

“People can get sponsored to do the walk or can simply join us on the day and help spread the gospel and God’s love.

“We can travel at 3.5 miles per hour with each team which will mean we should finish at 6.30pm.

“Last year we had over 100 walkers and some came from as far as Portadown, Ballyclare and Bangor. Thanks to their hardwork we collected well over 1,000 in buckets on the day and then even more money came in from sponsorship and individual donations - our total was several thousand pounds!

“Obviously this amount made a fantastic boost to the charity and allowed us to change the lives of people in Uganda.
