The Executive gave the assurance during an update on its four-year Housing Investment Plan (2015 - 2019) at a special meeting of full council on Tuesday, November 29.

Clark Bailie, the Housing Executive’s chief executive, used the meeting to detail the efforts being made to meet local housing need, and to highlight many of the achievements the organisation has made throughout Northern Ireland in the past year.

During 2016 - 2019, in partnership with housing associations, around 134 new homes are planned throughout the city.

“Lots of work needs to be done to meet housing need, improve housing stock and provide support for the most vulnerable in our community – we will continue to play our part to ensure this work is delivered efficiently and effectively,” Mr Bailie said.

Maintaining its housing stock is a priority for the Housing Executive and this year in the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area the organisation will spend £6.65 million on planned and response maintenance to its homes.

This will include outside maintenance work to 1,033 homes, heating installation to 70 homes, multi element improvements to 83 homes, revenue replacement to 276 homes and smoke alarms installed into 987 homes.

In the Lisburn and Castlereagh area, the Housing Executive will also support those tenants who need help to live independently in their homes through the provision of adaptations.

Last year it spent £740,105 on both major and minor works helping people live more comfortably in their homes.

Speaking at the presentation to the council, Aengus Hannaway, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager, said; “Our team in Lisburn and Castlereagh provide a high quality, dedicated housing service to the area.

“We provide our tenants and the wider community with an effective and efficient service.
