Housing Executive plans for Cloughmills

PLANS to build new homes in Cloughmills has received a mixed reaction from local councillors.

The application, submitted by the NI Housing Executive, was for a residential development on land south east of Fenton Crescent and Fenton Park.

However despite being deferred from a previous meeting, receiving nine objections and one petition of objection, the Planning Service brought forward the application for approval at a recent Planning meeting.

In response Cllr John Finlay expressed his disappointment that the green amenity space in Cloughmills was going to be built upon. However he agreed that Cloughmills needed social housing but highlighted that new houses in the village were still sitting unsold.

Cllr Anita Cavlin praised the Housing Executive stating it was a good decision. She explained that Cloughmills needed more social housing as people were on the waiting list for local housing and sometimes had to be moved away to be rehomed.

She added that nine objections were ‘not a lot’ for an area like Cloughmills.

Concluding Cllr Malachy McCamphill said he was at the office meeting and the loss of the green space was the main concern.
