A number of false alarms at Beechwood House and Woodland House have left frustrated residents unable to use the lifts on a number of occasions.

Cllr David Hollis, who suffers from spinal problems, was forced to climb 200 steps to get to his flat when the lift in Woodland House stopped working last week and the system couldn’t be reset.

The TUV representative said that he and his fellow tenants are fed up with the situation and want the problem resolved once and for all.

Responding to the tenants’ concerns, a spokesperson for the Housing Executive commented: “We are aware there has been an issue with the newly installed alarm system at Rushpark, which we are working to resolve.

“Following a number of false alarms the contractor carried out remedial work on the alarm system in May of this year and this resulted in no alarm activations until last week. We understand that residents are greatly inconvenienced when the alarm is activated and the lift remains on the ground floor, especially in the evenings.

“We are continuing to work with the NIFRS and hope to have the matter resolved as quickly as possible.”
