Housing merger won't affect service

LONDONDERRY housing chief Sean Mackie has pledged a staff reshuffle will not affect the local housing service which he promises will continue to be comprehensive throughout the city.

Earlier this year it was revealed personnel changes at the local Housing Executive were under way with two Londonderry offices affected.

Management teams at Waterloo Place and Collon Terrace are to merge under the proposals.

But writing to Derry City Council Chief Executive Valerie Watts, Mr Mackie promised the changes will not affect the local housing service.

He also advised the changes will take place in phases.

He wrote: "I am now writing to advise you that the process will be completed in two phases.

"Maintenance is currently managed by a single District Maintenance Manager (Philip Meenan) and the District Manager function will be effective from March 2011."

Mr Mackie advised the Town Clerk that he would write to the Council nearer the time in order to advise of the individual appointed to the post.

He concluded: "Both offices will continue to deliver existing services from both locations including Housing/Homelessness, Response Maintenance, Estate Management, Community development and local partnerships.

"We will continue to deliver a comprehensive housing service from both locations and I assure you of our continued commitment to providing this service."
