Huge interest in Londonderry GPP launch

OVER sixty Protestant community groups and organisations have expressed interest in the Londonderry Gateway to Protestant Participation (GPP) which was officially launched in the city last Thursday.

Local politicians have also been positive in their approach to GPP.

Speaking after the launch, Outreach Project Worker for Londonderry Julia Kee said: “The aim of the launch was to give groups and organisations and in depth overview of the GPP programmes, outlining exactly how groups can benefit from participating in the programmes.

“The project has been designed to targets those smaller Protestant groups and organisations who, as shown by research did not benefit fully from the previous Peace programmes.

“It was great to see so many groups and organisations all working in Protestant communities coming together to support this programme.

“In this period of scarce resources the GPP programme represents not only a potential source of project funding but also the opportunity to develop sustainable skills which will enhance project delivery in the future.

“Groups who are interested in participating in the programme should contact me for further information.”

GPP is a strategic programme designed to encourage the participation of the Protestant community by promoting a shared sense of belonging and addressing issues of marginalisation and tackling attitudes to racism and sectarianism, at a local level within the North West Peace III Cluster area. The Programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, through Peace III monies
