Hundreds attend ‘car cruise’in memory of Craig McCook

The friends of Liscolman teenager Craig McCook, who died after being involved in a car accident in Coleraine, have held a car cruise in his memory.

Craig (19), who was well known in the Coleraine and Ballymoney areas, died from serious injuries twelve days after the accident at Strand Road.

He was a car enthusiast, and was a member of a facebook group known as ‘FrostBite cruisers’. The page gives those interested in cars a forum to chat and share pictures.

After Craig’s death many in the group felt that they wanted to do something in his memory, and a memorial cruise was arranged at a venue in Ballymoney.

Ballymoney man, James McDonald, who knew Craig, told The Times this week that car enthusiasts from across Northern Ireland joined the meeting at Lidl carpark in Ballymoney.

“We spoke to Craig’s parents and they were happy enough for us to go ahead. The cruise details were put out on the ‘FrostBite Cruisers’ page and on the‘Car Culture Live’ page and it really was bumper to bumper in Ballymoney that day. There was a number of boys who travelled from Armagh to attend.

“Craig’s parents came down and spoke to some of those there. We got some car window stickers printed with an image of Craig’s Golf on them and we had a raffle for a prize kindly donated by Low Werks in Ballymoney and to date we have raised £1400.

“It was good to be able to give something back to the hospital where Craig was treated.”
