Hundreds back fuel tax cut bid

The FairFuelUK campaign – fronted by motoring journalist and broadcaster Quentin Wilson – claims to have 381 supporters in the Larne postcode area.

And the lobby group is appealing for more local people to sign up in support of the campaign for lower petrol and diesel prices at the pumps.

They want East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson’s constituents to press him to them to support the call for a duty cut of three pence.

Mr Wilson said: “Our supporters hope that the The Times Series can campaign locally to reduce the massive 60 per cent the Treasury tax on such an essential and the UK’s 32 million road users unavoidably have to pay each and every time they fill up their vehicles.

“What we are calling for in the lead up to the Budget on March 19 is for your readers to help by signing up to the FairFuelUK Campaign and then clicking on the CONTACT MY MP link and emailing their MP directly to ask them to support a cut of 3p in fuel duty in the Budget.” Quentin Wilson said FairFuelUK had already proved that the 3p fuel duty reduction would be “ fiscally self-financing”.

Yesterday (Wednesday) the lobbyists were to hand in a letter to Prime Minister David Cameron and Mr Osborne at Downing Street.

Quentin Wilson said: “We are calling for this heinous level of taxation to be reduced. This petition is supported by several MPs from all parties.”
