Hundreds expected in Rasharkin as local Hibernians celebrate St Patrick's Day

The County Antrim village of Rasharkin will play host to members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) from Counties Derry and Tyrone on Friday.

Hundreds are expected to attend the annual St Patrick’s Day celebration with the parade taking place along a two-mile stretch of the village.

The speeches are scheduled for 1.30pm and the main parade will move off at three o’clock sharp.

The parade route is as follows: Chapel car park, Main Street, through the village to crossroads, Glebe Road, Kilrea Road, Turn Pike, Moneyleck Road, Short Street and Gortahard Road.

Local bands taking part include: Desertmartin, Ballinderry Flute Band, Ardboe Central Flute Band, St Brigid’s Accordion Band, Dungiven, Loup Flute Band, Brantry Pipe Band, Kinturk Band, Glen, Maghera, Randalstown, and Sons of Ireland, Feeny.

The organisers would like buses conveying the bands to avail of the Chapel car park.

A spokesperson for the AOH said they are hoping for good weather and a good turn out for the annual parade.
