Hundreds expected to attend funeral of prominent Bellaghy Republican Declan McGlinchey

The funeral of prominent Republican Declan McGlinchey, who died suddenly of a suspected heart attack, will take place in Bellaghy tomorrow.

Mr McGlinchey (39), a son of INLA leader Dominic McGlinchey, will be buried following Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Church in the village.

Hundreds are expected to attend the funeral which leaves his home at ‘Holly Hill’ on the Gulladuff Road at 10.15am.

His uncle Councillor Sean McGlinchey has spoken of the family’s devastation at the death.

He said Declan, who had been questioned along with his brother Dominic about the murder of two Sappers at Massereene Barracks in Antrim in 2009, had in the last few years moved on with his life and wanted to contribute to the peace process.

Declan McGlinchey is survived by his wife Brenda, seven children and brother Dominic.
