Hundreds of cars arrive in Ballymena for ‘cruise’

BALLYMENA motorists were amazed on Sunday night as hundreds of modified cars descended upon the Braidwater Retail Car park for a ‘cruise’.

Scores of cars poured into the car park making a quiet Sunday night in Ballymena resemble something like a scene from the hit movie The Fast and the Furious!

A cruise is an integral part of an ‘underground culture’ where modified car enthusiasts arrange to meet and show off their hardware.

Many of the cars are expensively modified and the drivers ‘cruise’ around the car park in their vehicles.

Despite the amount of high powered vehicles in one area, it appears that the drivers were well behaved with a few revved engines and some minor traffic problems the only issues.

A police spokesperson confirmed that officers attended a report of an organised gathering of cars at the Larne Road Link, Ballykeel area on Sunday night.

They said: “There were no complaints received to police and the event passed off without incident. Minimal traffic disruptions were caused as a result of the event.”
