Hundreds step up to take hospice under tow

Lisburn’s Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, saw hundreds of charity fundraisers on their way from Lisburn to Belfast when she opened the recent Hospice Walk along the Lagan towpath.

Despite a wet start to the day, more than 200 walkers joined the event - sponsored by Finaghy company, Creightons - in a bid to raise vital funds for the Northern Ireland Hospice.

“The turnout for the Lagan towpath walk was fantastic, with people enjoying the day with their families, friends and dogs,” said NI Hospice Events Fundraiser Lynn Cowan.

“The event was a real success and that’s thanks to the great community spirit of the people of Lisburn and South Belfast.” Lynn thanked all those who supported the event, including sponsors, Creightons, many of whose staff took part in the walk.

Andrew Porter of Creightons said: “We had a great day taking part in the Hospice Walk.

“The people of Lisburn and surrounding area all came out to support this worthy event and there was a real buzz as everyone walked the eight mile route with family and friends.”

Northern Ireland Hospice is a local charity caring for adults, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.

Money raised bythe walk will go to provide hospice care services for local people and their families.
