Hunter and Swann welcome resurfacing boost

UUP MLA Robin Swann and Moyle Councillor Sandra Hunter have “warmly welcomed” party colleague and Transport Minister Danny Kennedy’s announcement of the start of a £125,000 major resurfacing scheme on B67 Benvarden Road, Ballybogey, Ballymoney, as “a major boost for road safety in the region”.

The work is from Ballybogey Road Eastwards for around 1.2 km to near U62 Conagher Road.

Minister Kennedy said: “This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on part of this important road.”

To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses elements of this work, where possible, will be executed using lane closures only.

However, full closures of the Benvarden Road will be in place from 27 - 30 August inclusive to facilitate the carriageway surfacing works. Local property access will be maintained whenever possible.

During the closure signed traffic diversions via Castlecatt Road, Frosses Road and Ballybogey Road will be in operation for through traffic. The scheme is expected to be substantially completed on 30 August 2014.

In a joint statement, the two North Antrim UUP elected representatives said: “This latest roads boost for the region is warmly welcomed and when completed, will hopefully add to the safety of roads in the locality.

“Schemes such as this one unveiled by our party’s Executive minister, Danny Kennedy, emphasise the commitment which the UUP has to developing not just the roads infrastructure for the region, but also providing a platform to boost tourism for the area.

“If people know there are good roads in an area, they are more inclined to visit that area,” said Assemblyman Swann and Councillor Hunter.
