HURT to deliver outreach services

A LOCAL drugs charity is set to extend it's services to Dungiven in a bid to help those affected by drug and alcohol abuse.

HURT (Have Your Tomorrows) is to offer outreach services to individuals and family members and develop its educational role among schools, community groups and youth clubs. The group have been funded by the Big Lottery 'Reaching Communities' programme to offer their unique range of holistic and complimentary therapies in Derry, Limavady, Strabane and Dungiven over a four year period.

The introduction of HURT's outreach facility will mean those seeking support in dealing with substance misuse within the Dungiven area will have access to much needed treatment services. Typically, HURT offer emotional support as well a range of complimentary therapies to include Auricular Acupuncture, reflexology, and massage.

Speaking ahead of the launch HURT Centre Manager, Dessie Kyle commented: "We are very pleased to be able to offer our services to Dungiven at this time. The support from the BIG Lottery Reaching Communities programme coupled with all those who have helped us arrive at this point bodes well for the time ahead. It is our firm intention to work with key partners throughout the area including statutory and non-statutory agencies, with a firm emphasis on building a solid working relationship with all communities in the Dungiven area".

Outreach Worker, Rachel McGrory says the new service will operate from Dungiven's Dry Arch centre.

Rachel said: "Today is the culmination of a number of years of hard work by everyone involved at HURT. I am extremely thankful for the support and guidance offered to us by Mureil Bailey at the Dry Arch Centre in facilitating a suitable location. I look forward to develop our treatment and education services which we hope will help in some way to alleviate the impact of substance misuse within our communities. We are so thankful to the Lottery which has supported us in getting to this point and look forward to providing our support services to those in need."
