Hussey expresses concern after £50k cabin is destroyed in blaze

Mr Hussey said: “A wooden cabin within a compound on the Drumquin Road, not too far out of Castlederg, has been totally gutted by fire in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

“It is concerning that local police are treating this incident as ‘suspicious’ indicating a possibility of arson.

“If this turns out to be the case I trust that whoever may have caused this fire can be apprehended and made amenable to the law.

“Further, the burning structure lay in very close proximity to a residential bungalow beside the compound and it is fortunate that damage did not extend beyond the immediate source of the inferno.”

Sergeant David McIlwaine said the fire service turned out to the blaze shortly before 3am on Sunday, April 12.

The structure was one of two wooden ‘show cabins’ in a compound. The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.

“The blaze was spotted by passing motorists, who alerted the fire service. The cabin was valued at about £50,000,” he added.
