'˜I hate the PSNI they are totally useless,' man told officers

After he was seen urinating in a street in Banbridge a 33-year-old man twice gave police false details, the local court heard last Thursday.

Niall McCauley, Upper Quilly Road, Dromore, was fined £200 for obstructing police and £100 for indecent behaviour.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 2am on October 18 last year McCauley was seen in the Dromore Street car park urinating against a wall beside the toilets.

There were male and female pedestrians in the area who witnessed his behaviour.

When police approached the defendant, who was highly intoxicated, he was unremorseful and uncooperative, twice giving them false details.

McCauley said: “I hate the PSNI. They are totally useless.”

A solicitor representing the court said that he had been made the subject of a combination order in December.

She added that since the new year McCauley had got employment and this provided a focus in his life.

He would say that he was beside the toilets but the door was locked.

District Judge Rosalie Prytherch said that if McCauley had not received the combination order she would have been ordering a pre-sentence report.

She added that this was ‘just despicable behaviour’ and ‘gross conduct’ and he failed twice to give his details to police.

The judge said the offences were set against the background of two much alcohol and added that McCauley was building up a record which is alcohol related.
