Ian Paisley pays glowing tribute to Times’ Editor

LOCAL MP Ian Paisley has expressed his sadness over the retirement of Ballymoney and Moyle Times editor Lyle McMullan (right).

Speaking to the Ballymoney and Moyle Times Ian Paisely jr said: “It is with the greatest fondness that I say goodbye to Lyle McMullan, the fantastic and charismatic editor of the Ballymoney and Moyle Times, who for over 18 years has served this paper and the local community valiantly with articles and publications of the highest quality.

“I don’t believe there is one person in North Antrim who would have a bad word to say about Lyle, for his journalism, professionalism and general all round good humour and character have been a pleasure to work with.

“His retirement this week marks the end of an era for Ballymoney, because for the past 18 years we have been blessed with his wonderful editorial skills and quality in the local paper. There are few out there who have given so much and will leave such an enormous imprint on the field of journalism when he has left.

“Unfortunately Ballymoney and North Antrim have lost one of their finest editors, for we all know just how hard and relentlessly he has worked as an editor and journalist covering one of Northern Ireland’s most important and monumental times.

“So it is with a hint of sadness that I wish Lyle and his family all the very best for the future and hope he has the most enjoyable of retirements, for I can think of fewer men who deserve it more!”

Meanwhile Elizabeth Johnston, Head of Corporate & Development Services speaking on behalf of Ballymoney Borough Council added: “Since Lyle established the Ballymoney Times in 1990, providing a street presence in the town, later extending the newspaper neighbouring district of Moyle he has he demonstrated a strong interest in the life and times of this local community and ensured excellent coverage of the various council and community events in this area.

“I extend very best wishes to Lyle on his retirement and on whatever new interests or ventures he embarks upon.”
