Ice cream offer will boost funds for children's charity

A BALLYMENA business is giving away free ice cream as part of a national campaign to help raise thousands of pounds for disabled and disadvantaged children.

The big giveaway is happening on April 1, but it’s no April Fools prank with thousands of ice creams being given away to raise money for the Variety Club Children’s Charity.

McGroggan’s will be supplying free vanilla ice cream from their shop in Broughshane Street, Ballymena.

Owner Brian McGroggan said: “It may seem crazy to give our ice cream away but it’s a great way of giving our customers a free treat while also helping to raise money for an extremely worthwhile cause.”

The great giveaway has been organised by The Ice Cream Alliance which represents the ice cream industry in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

ICA Chief Executive Officer Zelica Carr said: ”We want to give people a foretaste of summer with our National Free Scoop Day and remind them how great ice cream is. Hopefully, they will also make a donation to support our fund raising efforts for the Variety Club charity.”
