Ilex application

ILEX has applied for permission to knock-down a ‘lean-to’ between two buildings on its Ebrington Barracks site.

The application to “demolish the lean-to between building 10 and 11 at Ebrington Barracks” has been lodged with the local planning office.

An assessment by a Department of Finance and Personnel structural engineer advised that building 10 is “a mixture of individual buildings” and that the area proposed for demolition is “an in-fill between two original buildings.”

The engineer’s assessment warned that the dividing wall of one of the buildings has been removed leaving a roof slab unsupported. This means temporary props need to be installed to support the roof until beams are put in place otherwise the roof could collapse.

“Attention must be paid to the unsupported roof slab in building “B”. Temporary props should be installed and plans put in place to fit a steel beam or beams, similar to the room on the other side if the corridor,” the engineer reported.
