Ilex is making progress says review

ILEX has made progress on regenerating Londonderry by completing the Peace Bridge and Ebrington Square and developing internal and external relations, since a 94-page report by consultants BDO was published a year ago.

The review was carried out on behalf of ILEX’s sponsor departments, the Department of Social Development (DSD) and the Office of First and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM), and outlined 22 key actions. including prioritisation of the development of Fort George and Ebrington and the delivery of the city regeneration plan.

OFMDFM Ministers Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness were asked by Foyle MLA Colum Eastwood what progress had been made on implementing the recommendation for the improved delivery of regeneration in Londonderry up until October 2011.

In a statement the Ministers replied: “Ilex and sponsor departments have made progress in the implementation of recommendations following the publication of the review of Ilex in 2011.

“Progress has been made in the development of both internal and external relationships, processes and performance along with a number of organisational improvements.

“These have contributed to the implementation of a number of Ilex regeneration objectives, such as completion of the Peace Bridge and the completion of Ebrington Square at Ebrington Parade Ground.

“Departments continue to monitor progress and to work with Ilex to improve delivery or regeneration work in the city.”
