Ilex must salt Peace Bridge
SOCIAL Development Minister Nelson McCausland has asked Ilex to take appropriate measures - including salting when icy conditions are forecast - to ensure users of the Peace Bridge will be reasonably safe.
The Minister made the revelation a few weeks after Roads Minister Danny Kennedy confirmed the overall Ebrington site would not be gritted by Roads Service this winter as it does not have responsibility for it.
Now Mr McCausland has stated: “The Ilex Urban Regeneration Company is responsible for the maintenance of the Peace Bridge in Londonderry. “The Department has asked Ilex to take such measures as are reasonable to ensure that users of the Peace Bridge will be reasonably safe, including undertaking a programme of salting the pedestrian surface of the bridge when icy conditions are forecast.
