‘I’ll back Omagh detox’ - Hussey

Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) Councillor Derek Hussey says he’ll be backing Omagh rather than Londonderry as the site for a new detox centre for the Western Trust area if the matter comes before the new Derry and Strabane supercouncil.

He made the comments after it was revealed Omagh District Council made “a very strong case” to the Western Trust Chief Executive Elaine Way that it should be located at the Tyrone Hospital.

The Castlederg-based Councillor stated that: “Strabane Councillors should be supporting their fellow County Tyrone colleagues for the centre to be located within our County Town.”

Asked by the Sentinel if he believed a majority of Strabane Councillors would back Omagh over Londonderry, he replied: “I would. For some of us the issue of the already excellent existing unit at the Tyrone and Fermanagh must not be ignored.”

The moribund Derry City Council has already passed motions backing calls for a detox centre in the city in support of campaign spear-headed by relatives of those who have died by suicide after suffering from addiction problems.
