Illegal carcass dumping slammed by councillor

THE dumping of decomposing animal bodies at a local beauty spot has been described as "sickening".

Council staff had to don bio-hazard suits to remove some of the carcasses, thought to have been dumped at Nessagh Road and Loughermore Forrest over the last few weeks. Professional equipment is now being brought in to remove the rest of the rotting bodies. Limavady DUP Councillor Alan Robinsosn visited the area on Thursday and described the scene as "unbelievable".

Councillor Robinson said: "The sight that met my eyes was unbelievable and to see carcasses disposed of in such a careless manner is sickening, it is also irresponsible and a danger to public health. There are legally enforceable means by which dead animals can be disposed by, so whoever is doing this can, and I hope will be, held liable for all the costs involved with the clean up."

"Let us be in no doubt that it is costing every ratepayer in this Borough to clean up after these irresponsible people. The remaining carcasses on forestry land I am assured will be removed in the next couple of days as specialist equipment has had to brought in to deal with this" said Cllr Robinson.

The DUP councillor also praised the work of the staff involved in the operation which most would find "impossible to undertake".

Councillor Robinson cotinued: "I wish to pay specific tribute to the council staff who have had to become involved in the clean up. They had to wear special bio-hazard suits to do this work, and it was a most unpleasant task for them to perform. It was a task that I, and most other people, would find difficult at best and probably impossible to undertake".
