Illegal fireworks and drugs seized

NEIGHBOURHOOD police officers in Lurgan have arrested two men following the search of a dwelling at Woodville Street earlier today, 20 October.

The property was searched following concerns from the local community in relation to the illegal use of fireworks. A quantity of class A and B drugs and approximately 20 illegal fireworks were seized.

Two 18-year-old men were arrested.

Police would remind members of the public that a licence is required for outdoor fireworks and the legal age to obtain the licence is 16-years-old.

The use of bangers is illegal and the use of fireworks outdoors after 11pm and before 7am is prohibited except under licence.

The law clearly says that fireworks must be bought from a licensed dealer who is required to keep sales records.

Fireworks bought from other sources could be of a sub-standard quality, with the potential to cause serious injury.

Fireworks that do not have instructions printed in English are illegal, as are all bangers. The purchase, possession or use of fireworks without a licence is an offence.
