They were uncovered in a joint operation between Craigavon (Brownlow) Neighbourhood team and the local policing support team.

Writing on the PSNI Facebook page, an officer said, “They are cheaply made, unreliable, highly unstable and aren’t covered by any guarantees. If you light one of these, there’s no telling how long the fuse burns for, what direction it flies in, or who ends up in the firing line.

“This may sound fun, but as our previous warnings have outlined, if you are too close to these things when they go bang, losing a finger will be a good outcome. Someone in the Craigavon area thought it was OK to keep and sell these things, so last night got a knock at their door.

“If you are caught with them, you will face investigation over explosives legislation offences.”

Police have already started visiting schools in the Brownlow area, giving talks on fireworks safety, and say they will visit every school.

They said information originating on Facebook had pointed them towards the culprits, and reminded the public that anyone wishing to buy and sell fireworks needs a licence.
