‘Improved public transport just the ticket’

COUNCILLOR Ken Robinson has welcomed the announcement by Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy that public transport provision will be improved in the lead up to Christmas.

The UUP councillor, who has long been a champion of public transport, said: “I am particularly pleased to note that NIR are going to double the size and capacity of their trains on the line between Belfast and Coleraine. This of course means that passengers using Mossley West station will benefit from this extra seating capacity.

“From November 19 the majority of trains on this stretch of line will have six carriages instead of the usual three. From December 3 to December 22 an additional late night Christmas shopping train will also run on the route, leaving Belfast at 10.08pm.”

He added: “Metro bus passengers will also benefit from a £2 unlimited travel fare after 9.30am on Saturdays, which will be extended until January 5.

“All of these initiatives should help ease congestion in the run up to Christmas, encourage shoppers and provide travellers with an improved level of service and comfort.”
