Work on the Beechwood House and Woodland House tower blocks is nearing completion. And Cllr Hollis has praised “the high standard of work carried out on the flats.”

The TUV man, who lives in Woodland House, said that while the presence of asbestos presented problems during the work and some minor issues still have to be addressed, the overall scheme was “well worth the wait.”

“All flats have been fitted with new heat and smoke alarms, fire proof doors fitted on all flats and hallways with new lighting systems,” he explained. “All communal floors have been relaid and painted and new lifts fitted. The front doors are causing problems when the high winds are blowing, but this is going to be rectified. I have also been reassured that the outside of the buildings are to be inspected and work carried out on the balconies during 2015.”

Cllr Hollis said he hopes the DSD will now release funding to enable a long-awaited window replacement scheme at the flats to go ahead.
