Improving ‘Ballykeel II’

HAVING recently identified areas requiring a spruce-up in Ballykeel I, Alderman Martin Clarke and a group of like-minded individuals headed for Ballykeel II on Friday on a similar mission.

The Ballymena South representative met with Ballykeel Together Development Association and representatives from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Ballymena Borough Council’s Environmental Health department.

Their second meeting again took the form of an estate ‘walkabout’ from which areas for potential

improvement were identified, including:

* overgrown grass areas at the bottom of Ballykeel II where wild flowers could be planted

* back paths between houses which could be cleaned up

* provision of floral planters

The importance of getting the youth of the area involved in the improvement work was also mooted at the meeting as a means of encouraging pride in the area.

Ald. Clarke said the initiative will be subject to securing the appropriate funding from DSD as part of the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme.

Speaking afterwards, the Alderman thanked the Ballykeel Together Development Association for all their work in the area and also Joe Thompson and his group for their work in the Ballykeel II estate.
