What is particularly to be welcomed is that while across Northern Ireland 26% of all grades awarded were A or A* at the High School 36% of grades were in that category. That puts Cookstown High School seven percentage points ahead of the Northern Ireland average for these top grades. Nationally 7.2% of all grades awarded were A* while at Cookstown High that was 8%. While nationally there was a slight dip in pass rates, at Cookstown High School there was an increase.

This success is firstly a credit to the young people who have studied hard and performed well. It is also a tribute to the commitment and professionalism of our well qualified teaching staff and the encouragement, support and co-operation of parents and families.

We are also delighted that outgoing Head Boy, Ian Johnston, not only attained 100% in his A2 French but has gained admission to Clare College Cambridge to study Modern Languages. Ian became the sixteenth pupil of Cookstown High school in the last ten years to be offered a place at Oxbridge and we convey hearty congratulations and best wishes to him.

Commenting on the results the Headmaster of Cookstown High School, Graham Montgomery said “These results demonstrate clearly that Cookstown High School is the key destination for those who aspire to achieve outstanding results at A Level. We have helped more pupils to access more high level university courses. We congratulate everyone involved in securing these results and wish the young people well as they leave the High School to embark upon the next exciting stage of their education.”
